Live2D Model Collaboration

The Live2D Model design is a full-body animated model created while collaborating with a third-party animator. As the illustrator and graphic designer, I worked on creating the full-scale model, expressions, and additional assets as well as cutting/separating it to prepare for rigging.

From sketch to completion, the model was completed in 45 days. After it was sent to the animator, there were 2 weeks of back-and-forth adjustments.

Role: Illustrator and Graphic Designer

Timeline: 2 months

Tools: Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop, Illustrator

The selected concept for the model design is a casual theme to match its use as a casual gamer. A few design elements that were requested were an oversized hoodie to convey comfort, long pink hair, and lapel pins on the hoodie to add more personality and style for the model.

An alternative concept was explored for a fantasy theme, but is shelved for future design iterations once a definitive concept is confirmed.

The creation of the model art was done in the program, Clip Studio Paint Pro. From there, the process took about 45 days from sketch, rendering, compositing, and cutting/separating each element for animation.

After the final check was completed, the model art was sent to the animator to begin the rigging process.

Once the essential parts were confirmed, the animator would send adjustment notes to fix different parts of the model to make the animation smoother.

A majority of these adjustments are based on the animator’s technique preference as these vary depending on the individual animator. These included length adjustments to the neck, sleeves, and hair. Overall, the editing process took 2 weeks to complete for a fully functioning animated model.
